Lake Oswego Reads 2008 Kick-off Party!

The Lake Oswego Public Library would like to invite the entire community to participate in the second annual Lake Oswego Reads program. Community events are now posted at the Lake Oswego Reads 2008 Official Page! The success of last year’s program demonstrates our community’s love of books, intellectual pursuits, and thoughtful discussion. During the month of February the Library, local schools, businesses and organizations will offer special programs and festivities connected with the Lake Oswego Reads book selection. This year’s selection is the inspiring, true story Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. The food, music, history and customs of Pakistan, the book’s setting, will be celebrated and explored.

Party at the Library! What better way to kick off Lake Oswego Reads than to distribute 800 complimentary copies of Three Cups of Tea? On Tuesday, January 8, from 6:30-9:00 pm, enjoy music and food from Pakistan at the Lake Oswego Library. Just show your Library card to get your own copy of Three Cups of Tea. Copies of the book are compliments of the Friends of the Lake Oswego Library.

The Lake Oswego Reads 2008 program is presented by the Lake Oswego Public Library and sponsored by West Coast Bank and the Friends of the Lake Oswego Library. The program is also made possible in part by a grant from the Oregon Council for the Humanities, a statewide nonprofit organization and an independent affiliate on the National Endowment for the Humanities, which funds OCH’s grant program. The Oregon Cultural Trust, which invests in Oregon arts, humanities and heritage, also helped fund OCH’s Grant program.

Lake Oswego Reads 2008: Coming Soon!

(Drum roll!) The book for Lake Oswego Reads 2008 has been selected! Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, is a true story, and will be very different from last year’s The Shadow of the Wind experience. Three Cups of Tea is the amazing story of Greg Mortenson, who refused to give up in the face of adversity, and who really has made a difference in, and improved, many people's lives. The book is also about his mission to promote peace, one school at a time. We are planning events for February 2008, and are asking for suggestions for speakers or entertainment ideas, based on the book Three Cups of Tea.
